Enhancing Early Childhood Literacy Through Picture Books!
Mother Goose Programs™ (MGP) is a collection of grant-funded early learning materials published by the
Vermont Center for the Book (VCB), a non-profit affiliate of the Library of Congress and the most active of the 50 state Centers for the Book. VCB runs many programs, including the popular
Red Clover Award, a children's-choice program for great picture books.
What's the BIG Idea?™ is based on materials VCB created in 2008 with generous support from the
National Science Foundation to introduce math and science in a new way in libraries, school districts and classrooms, early childhood education centers, and child-care programs.
What's the BIG Idea?™ materials were field tested with the help of the Houston Public Library, the Franklin-Essex-Clinton County Library system in upstate New York, the Department of Libraries in Vermont, and the State Library of Delaware.
Bernan is VCB's official distributor for early childhood programs, guidebooks, and professional development training.
