This publication is the result of the International Seminar on Rural Tourism and its Contribution to Job Creation and Heritage Conservation held in Asuncion, Paraguay, on 12-13 May 2003, in the context of the 40th Meeting of the Regional Commission for the Americas of the World Tourism Organization (WTO). In this way, the Organization and its Regional Representation for the Americas aim to contribute to the development of rural tourism in the region by disseminating the knowledge and experience put forward at the above-mentioned event. Bearing in mind that tourism is one of the world’s biggest economic activities and is an important factor of development for many countries, the Seminar highlighted the relevance and potential of rural tourism in the region.
