The World Factbook is a reference resource produced by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States with almanac-style information about the countries of the world. It provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 266 world entities. Reference tabs includes: maps of the major world regions, as well as Flags of the World, a Physical Map of the World, a Political Map of the World, and a Standard Time Zones of the World map.
The Factbook is prepared annually by the CIA for the use of U.S. government officials, and its style, format, coverage, and content are primarily designed to meet their requirements. However, it is frequently used as a resource for academic research papers.
